myYC Content Management SystemThere are a number of general purpose Content Management System (CMS) software packages on the market which help people with varying degrees of technical expertise create different kinds of web sites. The top three free CMS packages are WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal. Two key things to consider when looking at such systems is what the intended usage is (what kind of site you want to build) and who is going to create and maintain the site (what level of expertise is required). WordPress, for instance, is easy to administer for simple blog style sites, but is very difficult to build more complicated sites with. Joomla and Drupal are more difficult to administer, but offer more flexibility in terms of building complex, interesting sites. The myYC Content Management System is not a general purpose CMS. By focusing on sailing and the particular requirements of sailing related sites, myYC's CMS is able to offer much more robust capabilities while at the same time making administration much easier. In fact myYC security roles can grant very non-technical sailors access to administer site content tied to their area of responsibility, sometimes with just a few clicks. As an example, to add a dynamic competitor listing to your site to list competitors as they register, just add a Competitor Listing page to your site menu. Adding a Charter Boat listing page is just as easy. Advanced features, like Registration Setup, Forms Automation, and Online Store Management, carefully balance ease-of-use with power, giving you a great deal of flexibility with a minimum of complication. myYC sites are easy to create and content is easy to manage within a relatively standard layout. At the same time, if your site requires a highly custom look and feel, myYC offers template customization services at a reasonable rate without removing your ability to easily maintain site content. The 2012 UMG J24 Worlds site is an example of a completely custom layout which still supports myYC's core content management capabilities. |
