Introducing DroidYC - the myYC Android App

DroidYC - the myYC Android App

We are proud to announce that DroidYC, the myYC Android app, is officially under development. With a target release in 2011, DroidYC will come in several flavors:

DroidYC Free will connect to myYC.org and enable sailors to do things like browse their club's member directory from their Android enabled phone and call or email members and groups. Fleet lists and other myYC information will also be securely accessible within a native Android environment.

DroidYC Basic will, for a small fee, give individual racers and cruisers race calculators, myYC photo blogging capabilities, and more. This will build on DroidYC's integration with myYC.org and leverage things like GPS and camera capabilities built into Android devices.

DroidYC RC will boast innovative new functionality geared to help race committees start, run, and finish races consistently and correctly. We won't reveal everything we have planned here, but to give you a taste, the image to the right is a mockup of the screen race committees will use to manage boats during a race. As boats enter the Finished Boats section, their GPS finish times are recorded and automatically posted to myYC.

Android Tablet Optimization will be integral in DroidYC. In particular this will help race committees, who can buy a 7" GPS and cell phone enabled Android tablet for $270 or less and get an extremely easy to use tool. For that price, it's also easy to imagine yacht clubs purchasing one for the club house which members could use with DroidYC Free to browse club information and interact with other members and the club.
